Today Estrada is a tourist alternative to get to know the beauties of the Serra da Mantiqueira. Its characteristic obeys an architecture that has remained unchanged since 1910, the year of its construction, forming a harmonious set, typical of the railroads of the past.
From Campos do Jordão it is possible to take a tour of the main towns of the city: Capivari, Jaguaribe and Abernéssia, in a course of 4 kilometers. The ride takes you through the urban cable car (known as shrimp), a friendly and charming machine in English style, which provides the opportunity to enjoy images from an exclusive point of view, between the two main and most wooded avenues of Campos.
Another option is to follow the centennial rails to the city of Santo Antônio do Pinhal. You can explore the Serra da Mantiqueira in a wonderful walk, which passes through places where nature is still untouched and its access happens only through the Railroad. This tour includes the Lageado Valley, where it reaches the highest point of the Brazilian railways.
The construction of the Railroad began in the year 1910, idealized by the sanitary doctor Emilio Marcondes Ribas, supported by Dr. Victor Godinho. The old steam engines took up to 12 hours to complete the 47-kilometer trail from Pindamonhangaba to Campos do Jordão. Today the machines are powered by electricity, but most of the technology used at the beginning of the century endures to this day, retaining the style and old romanticism.
